Extending their traditional home to include an en-suite bathroom, bathroom design team Sunny and Komal - were set on creating a space that was big on glamour and comfort.
Can you sum up the design brief for this bathroom?
‘As we were creating our own en-suite bathroom we wanted a sense of personality, fixtures and fittings with a ‘wow’ factor and spa-like levels of luxury’
Where there any major structural alterations to be done?
‘We were extending the existing en-suite into the eaves, so we had to work around traditional exposed oak beams and original walls – combining them with modern fixtures and fittings’
Was there a particular item you were keen to include?
‘We decided to include a shower toilet rather than just an ordinary toilet, to enhance the luxurious spa-like feel. We chose the Geberit AquaClean Sela. It doesn’t look out of place in our very traditional property, but features up-to-the-minute technology which means we feel extremely pampered!’
What was the easiest part of the brief?
‘Making use of the sloping ceiling. The lowest part was reserved for the luxurious hexagonal tub from Villeroy & Boch, and the highest part was used for the over-sized Rain Shower from Hansgrohe. Wet and dry areas are maintained separately, and the spacious feel isn’t compromised’.
What is your favourite design feature in this room?
‘Apart from the shower toilet, we love the Sigma80 touchless flush plate, also from Geberit. The black glass finish is sleek and contemporary and inspired a lot of the other design choices in the room, particularly the furniture and radiator. It’s one of the smallest items in the room but really pulls the whole scheme together’.

Why did you specify this particular toilet, and what are its design advantages?
‘We had seen the WC when the idea was launched, and wanted to include it in one of our bathroom schemes - so that we could honestly report on its advantages to our clients. It looks neat and stylish, not too different from many other models – until the lid is lifted and you realise that it has the functionality to wash with water. It’s been a particular hit with the children, they love it, and guests like it too! We also wanted a ‘wow factor’ radiator – hence our choice of the Bisque model in bright red.
