There is now an abundance of showerheads on the market of all shapes and sizes- so how do you know you are buying the right model for your bathroom? GROHE, the bathroom specialist, has put together a showerhead buying guide so you ensure you choose the best model for your needs.

Small versus large diameter showerheads

While most people might naturally assume that a large showerhead will deliver a more powerful showering experience this is not necessarily the case. A big head will provide a larger spray coverage area with a greater volume of water. However, because of the large surface area, the water will have a reduced pressure, so might result in a less powerful flow.
This works vice versa for a smaller showerhead which gives a more powerful flow of water, however a smaller spray coverage area. The garden hose is a good example of how this works. If you place your finger of the end of a hose, the pressure of the water becomes greater but the amount of water flowing out of the hose is less.

Showerheads that are mounted flush with the ceiling are a great option if you are looking to design a contemporary and sleek bathroom, as they provide a very modern look. They are also a good choice if you have limited space in your shower- especially when paired with concealed wall controls to operate the shower.

Easy installation and maintenance
Look out for showerheads that are designed to be easy to fit, for a straightforward and time-saving installation process. Most showerhead packaging and product information will state whether the head has special features designed to make life easy for the installer.
When choosing the finish of the showerhead, make sure it is coated so that it is robust, scratch resistant and will also keep its good looks for years to come. You might also consider a showerhead with a speed clean option, designed to minimise lime scale build up and ensure easy maintenance. Speed clean showerheads often allow you to clean the nozzles of the shower simply by wiping the surface, for a hassle-free and long product life.

Multi-spray options and extras to look out for
